When are your worship services? Do I need to arrive at a certain time?
We have two Sunday worship services each week—at 9 AM and 10:45 AM. There is no special time to arrive by and, unlike many theaters, we will not shut you out if you arrive late. You will find that most of our worshippers arrive 5-10 minutes before the start of service.
What is your worship like? How long should I expect the service to last?
Our worship services include a time of announcements, worship through music, a time of greeting one another and a sermon. Our pastor preaches messages that are both biblically sound and apply to daily living. These sermons generally last 35-40 minutes and the entire services each last about 60-70 minutes.
How do I get there? Where do I go once I’m there?
You will find the church at 4162 Roxbury Road in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, about 4 miles west of Route 11. (For directions and a map link, click here.) The church is set back about 60 yards from Roxbury Road and is surrounded by a parking lot. All worship services are in the Worship Center downstairs and the best way to enter is to use the doors at the rear of the building. We have greeters inside the doors and they can help you find bathrooms, classrooms or whatever else you may need.
What about children in worship services? Do you have childcare available?
Children are welcome to worship here at Mongul Church! We realize that you may be more comfortable having your children remain with you in service, however, we beleive that age-appropriate learning is beneficial. We encourage you to take advantage of our staffed nurseries for infants through age 2, our Imprints program (3-5 year olds) or Kids4Christ program (1st-5th grade) during Sunday's services.
Is there a dress code? What should I wear to worship?
Here at Mongul we do not have a specific dress code and we will not turn you away based on your attire. We care more about your presence than your clothing. That said, you may be more comfortable knowing what others will be wearing when you arrive! Overall, we tend to range from casual to business/dress casual here.
Do your services include Communion/Eucharist/the Lord’s Supper? Do I have to take it? Am I allowed to take it?
Here at Mongul Church we partake of communion on a quarterly basis. You are certainly not required to take the bread or cup when passed. We also do not require you to be a member of our church (or even our denomination) in order to participate. We do what we call “open table” communion whereby any who profess faith in Jesus Christ may participate.
Is your church accessible for those with disabilities? Is handicap parking available?
For the main floor of the church (church offices, Wednesday studies), there is an access ramp to the double glass doors around the left (east) side of the building. The Worship Center and downstairs area can be accessed through the doors in the back. There are a couple of handicap parking spaces outside the glass doors. We will soon have more spots in front of the Wosrhip Center doors.
If I’m a first time guest, will I be pointed out? Am I expected to put money in the offering?
As a first time guest it is our desire to welcome you and make you feel at home. We will not ask you to raise a hand or stand or speak or pray or anything that would make you feel put on the spot. We also do not expect our guests to put any money in the offering. This is our time to serve you. (Should you decide to make Mongul Church your home, which we would love, then you may feel free to give as God leads.) What we would appreciate from you as a guest is to allow us to serve you and, if you don’t mind, to fill out a communication card to let us know you were here.
Can I still come if I am _________?
No matter how you fill in the blank, as long as you have a pulse, you are still welcome here. And even if that is thready, we do have a few nurses around! In all seriousness, we won’t turn you away if you’ve never been to church, if you grew up in a different denomination, a different sect or even a different religion. We won’t discriminate based on age, race, gender, marital status, employment status or economic status. You can show up in your buggy, your minivan, your porsche or your motorcycle. It doesn’t matter if you have glasses, a walker, a tattoo, purple spiked hair or no hair at all. If you want to worship God or simply see what this “Christian God” is all about, then come. Let us love you, serve you and help you to see the grace, mercy and joy that God offers.
When is the church office open? How can I contact the church?
